Rodák z Vysočiny, který ale velkou část života strávil v Brně (studoval zde střední i vysokou školu), získal první velkou trofej v roce 2013, kdy vyhrál <strong>světový pohár WAKO</strong>. Postupně získával další důležitá vítězství až se během tří let probojoval do hvězdné organizace <strong>Glory</strong>, což je v podstatě ta nejvyšší meta pro postojáře – zápasili zde například světoví šampioni jako Israel Adesanya nebo Alex Pereira. Zajímavostí je, že už v té době měl Jiřího Procházku ve svém rohu. V Glory měl celkem 4 zápasy, z toho hned 3 vyhrál a v roce 2019 se rozloučil s kickboxem <strong>s celkovou bilancí 23-3.</strong></p><h2>PRVNÍ MOMENTY V KLECI: OKTAGON UNDERGROUND</h2><p>Poté přišla covidová pandemie a vypadalo to, že bude se zápasy na nějaký čas konec. V ten moment vznikl unikátní projekt <strong>OKTAGON: Underground</strong> – speciální turnaj s upravenými pravidly MMA, které omezily boj na zemi. Pro jednoho z nejlepších postojářů té doby na scéně to byla lukrativní příležitost, aby svůj um předvedl v kleci. Celým pavoukem prošel doslova jako nůž máslem. Ze tří zápasů si připsal dvě ukončení v prvním kole a svou dominanci měl potvrdit ve finále proti neřízenému slovensko-srbskému chaosu <strong>Vlastovi “El Chapo” Čepovi</strong>. Finále, kterého se fanoušci nemohli dočkat. Chirurgická přesnost a rozvaha Peňáze proti agresivnímu stylu Čepa. Jenže Matěj se zranil a k zápasu bohužel nedošlo. Tím skončila kapitola Underground a započala kapitola Peňáz vs Čepo, která se stále nedočkala rozuzlení.   </p><h2>V OKTAGONU NEPORAŽENÝ</h2><p>Po fantastických výkonech v Undergroundu byl Matějův start v profi MMA jen otázkou času. OKTAGON neváhal a elitnímu strikerovi nabídl smlouvu, takže jsme se prvního zápasu dočkali ještě v roce 2020. Premiéra ve žlutočerné kleci proběhla na turnaji <strong>OKTAGON 18</strong> proti nebezpečnému bojovníkovi, který si libuje v bezhlavých přestřelkách, <strong>Patriku Jevickém</strong>. Matěj ale ukázal, že je na jiné úrovni a Jevického poslal k zemi už v prvním kole. Stejně dopadly i jeho další tři zápasy – <strong>pokaždé ukončení v prvním kole</strong> a Peňáz začínal čeřit vody střední váhy. Po šestém zápase v OKTAGONu přišla lukrativní nabídka na zápas v Dana White Contender Series, což je takový předstupeň UFC. I když měl Matěj stále relativně málo zkušeností, rozhodl se výzvu přijmout. Zápas proti Američanovi <strong>Sedriquovi Dumasovi</strong> mu ale vůbec nevyšel. Lehkovážně se nechal chytit do gilotiny a byl nucen odklepat po pouhých 41 vteřinách zápasu. Řada odborníků se shoduje, že to byl tzv. “jeden z deseti” a že Matěj rozhodně měl veškeré kvality na to, aby Dumase porazil.</p><p>Každopádně měla tato porážka za následek Matějův návrat do OKTAGONu a další pokračování jeho dominance. Další 3 zápasy ukončené před limitem ho dovedly až k <strong>titulové šanci</strong>. Minulý rok se měl „Money” utkat s <strong>„Inspektorem” Patrikem Kinclem</strong> na edenském stadionu. Velmi očekávaný souboj, který měl ukázat, jestli jsou dohady a očekávání od Matěje skutečně na místě. Měla to být dosud nejtěžší zkouška kariéry.
