Při první účasti na mistrovství Velké Británie v kulturistice mu není umožněno nastoupit do juniorské kategorie, a tak vyhrává rovnou tu mužskou seniorskou. Spory a nejasnosti se soutěžemi spojené ho však postupně otravují natolik, že jeho zájem o kulturistiku upadá. Živí se jako vyhazovač v nočním klubu a když s lehkostí vyřeší potyčku dvou profesionálních MMA zápasníků, zaujme jejich manažera natolik, že si ho vezme pod svá křídla a přesvědčí k tréninku. Po dvou týdnech v posilovně vyhrává svůj první zápas v prvním kole a ve své výherní pouti pokračuje vesele dál. Dokud nepřijde to, co se do té doby žádnému Čechovi nepodařilo.</p><p></p><h3>KARLOS VÉMOLA, PRVNÍ ČECH V UFC</h3><p><strong>Karlos se stává prvním Čechem, který se dostal do UFC</strong>, a navždy se tak zapisuje do historie českého sportu. Im Alter von 19 Jahren geht er nach England, wo er auf bessere Bedingungen und die Erfüllung seines Traums hofft.</p><p></p><h3><strong>DIE ANFÄNGE DER MMA-KARRIERE: VOM BODYBUILDER ZUM KÄMPFER</strong></h3><p>Das Leben in England stellt ihm einige Hindernisse in den Weg, aber er geht mit ihnen auf "karlowsche" Weise um. Bei seiner ersten Teilnahme an den britischen Bodybuilding-Meisterschaften wird er nicht in der Juniorenkategorie zugelassen, gewinnt jedoch direkt die erwachsene Herrenklasse. Die mit Wettkämpfen einhergehenden Kontroversen und Unwägbarkeiten nerven ihn jedoch allmählich so sehr, dass sein Interesse am Bodybuilding nachlässt. Er verdient seinen Lebensunterhalt als Türsteher in einem Nachtclub, und als er einen Streit zwischen zwei professionellen MMA-Kämpfern mit Leichtigkeit schlichten kann, beeindruckt er deren Manager so sehr, dass er ihn unter seine Fittiche nimmt und ihn zum Training überredet. Nach zwei Wochen im Fitnessstudio gewinnt er seinen ersten Kampf in der ersten Runde und setzt seinen Siegeszug munter fort. Doch dann gelingt ihm etwas, was noch nie ein Tscheche zuvor geschafft hat.</p><p></p><h3>KARLOS VÉMOLA, ERSTER TSCHECHE IN DER UFC</h3><p>Karlos ist der erste Tscheche, der es in die UFC schafft und damit für immer in die tschechische Sportgeschichte eingeht. Obwohl sein erster Kampf mit einer Niederlage endet, überzeugt Karlos das Publikum davon, dass er den Vertrag nicht umsonst unterschrieben hat. Insgesamt bestreitet er sechs Kämpfe in der UFC, mit unterschiedlichen Leistungen. Der Jahrhundertkampf gegen Attila Vegh im November 2019 und der Rückkampf gegen Patrik Kincl im Jahr 2023 brechen alle Zuschauerrekorde und werden zu einem echten Phänomen - sowohl sportlich als auch gesellschaftlich. However, the controversies and uncertainties associated with the competitions began to annoy him so much that his interest in bodybuilding faded. He earns a living as a nightclub bouncer, and when he easily settles a fight between two professional MMA fighters, he impresses their manager enough to take him under his wing and convince him to train. After two weeks in the gym, he wins his first fight in the first round and continues his winning streak cheerfully on. Until he does what no Czech has ever done before.</p><p></p><h3>KARLOS VÉMOLA, THE FIRST CZECH IN UFC</h3><p>Karlos becomes the first Czech to enter the UFC, and thus he will forever be a part of Czech history. Although his first fight ends in defeat, Karlos convinces the crowd that he didn't sign the contract by accident. In total, he competes in six fights in the UFC, in which his performance is variable. In his last fight in Brazil, the difficult environmental conditions take their toll on him and his journey in the famous organization unfortunately comes to an end.</p><p>It is 2013 and Carlos has several fights ahead of him to further build his star career. He moves from the UK back to his home country where he accepts challenges from a series of Czech fighters and picks up more wins.</p><p>He gets another chance to return to the UFC, but loses a key fight to Jack Hermansson. On top of the defeat, he is charged with tax evasion in England, for which he is sentenced to one year in prison. So it seems that in 2015, the Czech Terminator is fading into the night.</p><p>However, he ends up serving only half of his sentence and then returns to wrestling in full force. He remains undefeated for 3 years.</p><p></p><h3>BECOMING A LEGEND: KARLOS VÉMOLA AND OKTAGON</h3><p>In 2019, Karlos becomes a part of our organization. He is helping us increase the popularity of martial arts which until then had no parallel in the Czechoslovak sports scene. His fight of the century with Attila Vegh in November 2019 and the rematch with Patrik Kincl in 2023 completely break all spectator records and become a real phenomenon - both sporting and social. Martial arts are my passion, and I pursue it in a way that brings me joy.</p><p><strong>Did you engage in any other sports before MMA?</strong> </p><p>When I was young, I participated in ski racing, and I also practiced athletics as a complementary activity. My parents are very athletic—my mother is a former ski athlete and even competed in the 1964 Winter Olympics. Sports have always been a life school for me and have helped me in every situation. I am highly competitive and love the challenge of testing myself against others. </p><p><strong>What initially drew you to MMA?</strong> </p><p>MMA fascinated me because it’s such a versatile sport that demands both physical and mental strength. Plus, it’s amusing how many people think they can defend themselves or act dangerously “when they see red,” especially when you’re practicing martial arts.</p><p><strong>How did you feel when you first stepped into the gym and began learning MMA?</strong></p><p>I enjoyed it from the very beginning. However, my inability to learn certain things still frustrates me to this day. I love pushing myself both physically and mentally.</p><p><strong>What does your life outside of MMA look like? What do you do professionally or personally beyond the sport?</strong></p><p>My first profession was as an electrician, and later I found my way to social work and recently completed a degree in that field. I work with teenagers and young adults. I’m a mother of three young adults, a single parent, and a proud homemaker. I love cooking, baking, and knitting.</p><p><strong>How did those around you react when you decided to pursue MMA? Was it easy to gain their encouragement and support?</strong></p><p>I honestly don’t know because their reactions don’t matter to me. I do what I want—that’s the benefit of being an adult. My children support me unconditionally, just as I support them. The same goes for my parents. Sometimes I miss being part of the “inner circle” of fellow athletes, where gender and age can be barriers.</p><oktfightcomponent fightid="1122"></oktfightcomponent><p><strong>Were there any moments during your journey when you doubted yourself or considered stepping away? What gave you the strength to keep going?</strong></p><p>Yes, there were tough times, especially with injuries or losses. But I’ve learned that every setback is a lesson. Besides, the question of continuing doesn’t really arise—it’s a part of me, just like my job.</p><p><strong>How are you preparing for your OKTAGON debut, and what significance does this opportunity hold for you?</strong></p><p>As always, I’m training daily, navigating the ups and downs that come with it. Unfortunately, due to work commitments, a fight camp somewhere in Thailand or similar isn’t an option.</p><p><strong>What are your thoughts on your opponent? Do you see the age difference as a challenge, or does it serve as an additional source of motivation?</strong></p><p>I’ve already fought high-level opponents, so I don’t think too much about my opponent. I know the women in my division are incredibly skilled, talented, and strong. This fight will be no exception. I focus on myself and my opportunities. The age difference isn’t anything new or unusual for me.</p><p><strong>In your view, what qualities or perspectives do women bring to MMA that make it truly distinctive?</strong></p><p>Incredible emotional strength and a strategic approach. I really love her style, and she’s an impressive personality. There are others I admire as well, but the list would be too long and probably boring. After such a stellar start, there was only one offer he could accept…</p><p><strong>FUN FACT:</strong> Before Jotko got into combat sports, he was a successful breakdancer. That’s why he often celebrates his victories by spinning on his head. However, he hasn’t tried these moves on his opponents yet.</p><h2>THE AMERICAN DREAM</h2><p>This marked the beginning of a long chapter in the UFC. Over 11 years, Jotko participated in 17 bouts. Among those was a planned match with Makhmud Muradov, which was canceled during the pandemic. Jotko not only settled in America but also started training there, preparing to this day with the elite American Top Team. This extraordinary chapter of his life solidified his place among Poland’s prominent sports figures.</p><h2>ENDURANCE ABOVE ALL</h2><p>His career didn’t end with the UFC. Today, Jotko boasts 25 wins, 17 of which went to the judges’ decision—proving that wearing him out is no easy feat. In November, after a long break, he returned to the cage with a second-round finish, and he surely has similar plans for his next opponent.</p><h2>THAILAND AND JAPAN</h2><p>Asia is his second home. He lived in Thailand for several years, falling in love with the local food, people, and training conditions—not to mention motorcycle rides.</p><p>He also has a strong connection to Japanese culture. The first round, the Round of 16 of this prestigious competition, won’t take place during a single event but will be spread across three locations in two countries. Let’s see which matches you can expect where and when so you don’t miss a thing!</p><h2>DÜSSELDORF WITH THE HOME CHAMPION</h2><p>The new season kicks off in Düsseldorf, Germany, which is already nearly sold out – and for good reason!</p><p>The highlight of the evening will feature the reigning champion, <strong>Engizek</strong>, undefeated for nine years, fighting in his hometown. In the first round, he’ll face the rising MMA star <strong>Salamone</strong> from France, known for his versatility and ability to finish most opponents before the time limit.</p><oktfightcomponent fightid="1086"></oktfightcomponent><p>Additionally, <strong>Matěj Peňáz</strong>, a big name in the middleweight division, will return to action. Born in Tourcoing, France, he only started practicing combat sports as a teenager. After discovering MMA, he also decided to dive into Greco-Roman wrestling, a discipline with a strong tradition in France.</p><p>At the age of 16, Salamone made his professional MMA debut – and it’s worth mentioning that he finished his first opponent in the first round with a Rear Naked Choke. This happened in Belgium, as MMA was still illegal in France at the time. For this reason, Salamone leaned more toward traditional wrestling for several years.</p><p>And he excelled – he became a national champion multiple times and even represented France on the national team. He describes his early career as constantly switching between wrestling and MMA. Wrestling remained a part of his journey for ten years.</p><p><strong>DID YOU KNOW?</strong> His nickname, "Ours Blanc," means "Polar Bear" in French.</p><h2>RETURN TO MIDDLEWEIGHT</h2><p>Thirteen years of professional fighting brought many stellar moments. Salamone has finished all his fights before the time limit, with most victories coming in under two minutes! However, he can also win on points, and his ground-game experience makes him a persistent and dangerous opponent.</p><p>He is now returning to the middleweight division after 3.5 years, having competed exclusively in light heavyweight since 2022. However, one fact that won’t delight Czech and Slovak fans: after <strong>OKTAGON 65</strong>, no Czech or Slovak fighter holds a title anymore.</p><p>Interesting note: Only one title fight ended in the first round—the clash between <strong>Surdu and Brito</strong> at <strong>OKTAGON 64</strong>.</p><h2>A RECORD-BREAKING YEAR</h2><p>2024 was undoubtedly a special year for OKTAGON. As you may already know, OKTAGON 62 shattered the world record for MMA event attendance.</p><p>Overall, nearly <strong>200,000 fans</strong> attended OKTAGON events last year, averaging 13,500 fans per event. Two major stadiums played a significant role in this achievement.
